On April 9, 2025, members of our research laboratory had the opportunity to present their work at the Austrian Parliament’s Administration during a session dedicated to the role of generative AI in legislative processes.
Thomas Elmar Kolb, Ahmadou Wagne, and Julia Neidhardt introduced practical approaches to support legal text analysis using generative AI models. The presentation, held in front of a larger audience in the Parliament’s administration, focused on showcasing AI-supported workflows within the parliamentary consultation process (“Begutachtungsverfahren”).
In a live demonstration, the team illustrated how AI can assist in:
- Comparing ministerial drafts with government proposals using prompt-based methods,
- Extracting and processing public and institutional statements submitted as PDFs, and
- Summarizing stakeholder statements in real time via Google Colab.
The presentation was met with great interest and followed by a discussion on the potentials and limitations of AI in public sector workflows. This exchange forms part of our broader initiative to explore the responsible and transparent application of AI in legal and administrative domains.
We sincerely thank Mag.a Ada Sporer, LL.M., Mag. Franz Gutsch, and Sharif Fuchs, BA MSc as well as their colleagues at the Austrian Parliamentary Administration for the invitation, the excellent organization, and the constructive dialogue.
